I don’t write poetry, but I have been reading some as of late. A few months ago I worked on the computer of one of Annie’s colleagues. The family tried to pay me, but I feel like that sort of work is best done as a good deed, sort of the pay-it-forward system.
A few weeks after working on the family’s computer Annie brought home a book written by the mother of the family. I am not sure, but I really enjoyed it.
Anyway, it has sort of got me thinking in maybe a poetry type way in my mind from time to time so today I decided to take a few moments and write down some of my thoughts. The results being below.
If you ever come to our house
You will notice an aged mismatched feel to our furniture
At times this has embarrassed me amongst new acquaintances and neighbors
However, over time I have learned to look at the two end tables, that I bought from a used furniture store in the first months I got out of college as not end tables at all but as
A trip to Greece taken in the dry summer of 2007
I see unfinished concrete houses,
A beautiful blue Adriatic Sea at sunset from a ferri,
Hiking on mountain passes created a thousand years before our footfalls landed
I see riding bikes around the modern city of Berlin,
And I can still hear that green frog squeaker on the handles bar being pushed.
I feel a cold rainy day in June in the square of one of the many wonderful Polish towns, where time seems to have stood still just like our furniture.
