Stuff about Stuart's life. You know programming, life, liberity the pursuit of happiness. Whatever! GOSH!

Today I was digging through the pantry looking for some lunch and found a can of SPAM that I bought at the store a few weeks ago because I had a coupon.

I happened to notice the date of when it expires.  June 2010.  DANG!

That is all.

Stuart

I start teaching a new class tonight.  It goes for 8 weeks.  The class covers everything VB.NET.  I am really looking forward to it.  I learned VB6 in school and I have pretty much just made the transistion on my own to VB.NET and ASP.NET.  VB6 and VB.NET are a lot alike.  I have always thought of VB.NET a lot of VB6 and a little of C++.

Going through the first three chapters of the book over the last few days in prepartion of teaching I have already learned a few things.  The main one being that using "\" to divide numbers is only partially correct.

Apparently you use "\" to divide integers only.  If you are dealing with floating point numbers you use "/".  I had no idea.  Anyway, I am sure I will learn many more tid bits over the course of the next eight weeks.  I probably won't bore you with them, but I thought I would today.

On the business front things are well.  I am staying really, really busy.  Too busy to be writing this blog right now, but you have to make your priorities right?

Here is a picture of Erick and Ellie at the hospital about 12 hours after her birth.  Daddy has only slept for about 2 hours in this picture, but he is still willing to ham it up for the camera.  I love my brother, he is the bestest brother in the world!

I met a client this morning and then headed over to the hospital and helped Mommy and Daddy pack up and go home.  They seemed tired but happy.  I am an excited uncle!  Though I am not sure when I should call Erick now?!?!?!?!  Erick, call me okay?

Stuart

Erick, my twin brother, and his wife Sara had their first baby this past Friday at 9:33 P.M.  Her name is Elizabeth "Ellie" Maye.  She is beautiful baby girl with a lot of black hair.  She loves to have her daddy hold her when she is upset.  It is a wonderful time for all of the family.

I think this sort of thing is rare so I feel I need to share.  I got my cell phone bill today.  The bill covers Annie and I's cell phones.  We have been on the same plan for about four years now.  We started the plan with Cingular and have now been migrated into AT&T.   The transistion has been pretty smooth.  We did lose access to our voicemail for 4 days, but that isn't a huge deal.

The last month of Annie and I's lives has been hectic at best.  Annie started teaching in August at her high school, but she is also teaching a German class two nights a week up at Anderson University.  I on the other hand have started a new business, Hilbert Solutions, LLC and that has kept me busy working at least 10 hour days, if not more.  I am also teaching a class at Anderson University.

What that means is that we have been on the cell phone a lot lately.  So, much so that we apparently didn't just go over our minutes but we devasted our minutes.  If our phone bill was Mortal Combat, I would say we put a finishing...

Grant and Jeff,

It was great to see some comments on my last post.  It really made me feel good.  Maybe I am just a sucker for comments or something.  Who knows?

Working from home is great.  I get a lot more time to actual work then I use to.  I use to spend over 2 hours a day in a car driving to and from work, now I spent about 10 seconds walking across the hall of my house.

I get to eat breakfest every morning on the back porch and right now watch the sunrise, in a few months it will be dark for a few hours.  I haven't figured out the workout thing yet and I haven't figured out how to take a break for lunch.

Right now I am blessed to be really busy with business so I keep myself pretty much nose to the grindstone.  I am trying to learn how to take a break and put things down.  We will see how I do.

Other things I have learned is that classical and techno music really help me to focus.  Techno just is like having a big guy in a loin cloth and a drum banging away at rythmn.  ...

Well, it has been quite awhile.  I have sat down to write a blog entry several times, but then have gotten distracted.   Shiny metal objects and all. :)

I am in the midst of writing some gridview databind code so I have some time to update everyone.

Things have been changing in my life for the better over the last month and a half.

At the end of June I put in my two weeks notice at work.  I did this without having another job.  My job has been great, I have learned a lot, they have been good to me, but I decided it was time to move on.

I have decided it is time to pursue a life long dream of starting my own business.  I am now the owner and operator of Hilbert Solutions, LLC (Website coming soon, when I have a minute, HilbertSolutions.com).

Hilbert Solutions, LLC will be a one stop web development shop.  We can built anything from a personal site, to an e-commerce site to a full blown MySpace type site.

We will specialize in the Dotnetnuke framework, focusing on module...

Annie and I got back a week ago today from Italy and Greece.  We went with Annie's school's band and orchestra.  We spent two weeks traveling around Italy and then Greece.

Both places are beautiful and each has its own flavor and style.  Greece was the big surprise for me.  So much history, so much culture, so beautiful.  Another big surprise was the Vatican.  The things we saw in the Vatican Museum were amazing.

It is always hard to come back after a great trip like that.  Hopefully we can make it back to Europe soon.
